Such deposits are mainly produced in the Paleoproterozoic, and a few are produced in Taikooyu, the Neoproterozoic (Great Wall, Sinian), Middle Devonian and Triassic.
The Paleozoic magnesite deposit in China is produced in the Liaohe Group in the Liaodong area and the Magnesia carbonate in the Jiaozishan Group. The surrounding rock of the ore body is mostly dolomite marble and a few are talc green mud schist. , sericite schist, biotite schist or phyllite. The degree of regional metamorphism is from the green schist facies to the ferrous garnet amphibolite facies. Near-mine rock alterations include magnesite mineralization, silicification, petrochemical, and dolomitization. The ore bodies are mostly layered and lenticular. The ore body shape is basically consistent with the surrounding rock, and a few ore bodies have an angle of intersection with the surrounding rock bedding. Some ore bodies have been mutated along the strike to dolomite marble. The boundaries between the ore body and the surrounding rock are clear, and some are irregular or gradual transitions.
The ore body is 1000m to 5000m long. The ore belt is often composed of a multi-layer ore body, and the single-layer ore body is 5m to 300m thick. Some ore bodies often have dolomite marble inclusions or magnesite mineralized dolomite marble inclusions of different sizes. Common ore structures are strip-shaped, radial (chrysanthemum), massive, speckled, and striated. The ore minerals are mainly crystalline magnesite, and the impurity minerals are dolomite, talc, tremolite, quartz, chlorite and carbonaceous materials, and some contain trace pyrite, chalcopyrite, hematite and phosphorus. The Taikoo Yuling Magnesia deposit in China is produced in the dolomite marble of the Yanzanhuang Group metamorphic rock series in the Taihang Mountains in Shandong Province. The regional metamorphism is of the garnet amphibolite facies. The surrounding rock alterations include Fangzhu Petrochemical, Grape Petrochemical, Green Curtain Petrochemical, Silicification, Carbonation, Chlorite, Sericitization, Biotitization, Muscovite, Potassium Petrochemical and Sodium Petrochemical. The ore body is layered, lenticular, with branches or irregular masses.
The length of the main ore body is generally about 1000m, the thickness is 3.62m~17.60m, and the average thickness is 7.68m. The ore minerals are mainly crystalline magnesite, followed by dolomite, containing a small amount of quartz, feldspar, occasionally chalcopyrite, pyrite, hematite and malachite. The main chemical components of ore are: W (MgO) 41.68% ~ 45.76%, W (CaO) 0.62% ~ 3.49%, W (SiO2) 1.07% ~ 1.75%, W (Fe2O3) 1.77% ~ 3.59%. The ore contains high iron and iron is mainly present in the form of (Mg, Fe) CO3. The size of the deposit is generally small and medium-sized, such as the Qianbu and Dahe magnesite deposits in Xingtai County, Hebei Province.
